local pickup

Save on shipping fees by picking up an item at our Urban Homestead! Most items on this site are available for local pickup in the Los Angeles area by request. Some of the larger items (compost bins, rain barrels, etc) have to be drop-shipped so local pickup options aren't offered. Check underneath the buying option on the product page for the "Shipping Details" tab to see if the item is drop-ship only. Since this is primarily an online store, most of the products aren't stored here at the house so all items have to be ordered online with "local pickup" selected at checkout. We will then contact you via email or by phone with pickup details. Items are usually available the next day for pickup if in stock.

Because the Urban Homestead is a private home, most products are stored off-site so we're not able to accommodate drop-in visitors.


HOW TO SAVE SHIPPING WITH LOCAL PICKUP

1. Add the items you want to buy to your shopping cart (make sure they aren't drop-ship only by viewing the "Shipping Details" tab under the product pages's buying options)
2. Once you have added all the items you want to buy, continue to check out.
3. At the Shipping Options page, select the "LOCAL PICKUP" option. This will remove the shipping costs from your shopping cart.
4. Pay for and finalize your purchase.
5. We will email or call you to set up a pickup time. If you are in a hurry, you may call us at 626-844-4586 or use our contact page .

THE URBAN HOMESTEAD

We realize that many people want to tour our award-winning and world famous Urban Homestead. However, we are unable to give tours to people picking up their order. While we desire to create the Urban Homestead into an educational tool, we are a viable, working homestead farm -- not a public garden or showcase home. The sacrifice of time to give every visitor a tour is too great. The time taken to give tours is time away from our work, which means decreased production from the garden and the loss of income. Please also understand that we cannot allow you to walk through the front yard and garden.
