In the midst of densely urban downtown Pasadena, radical change is taking root.
For over twenty years, the Dervaes family has been transforming their home into an urban homestead. They harvest three tons of organic food annually from their 1/10 acre garden, while incorporating back-to-basics practices, solar energy and biodiesel.
About the Film:
The original version of Homegrown Revolution was made for a lecture Jules Dervaes gave at the University of California Los Angeles in October 2007 on the topic of Slow Food. It received a wildly enthusiastic response from the students and, subsequently, attracted an avid following on YouTube, with over 400,000 views to date!
The film was selected for the 2009 Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival, and the Dervaes family was invited to attend the Festival as special guests. The short film was redone by the Dervaes family in 2008 for a wider audience. Clips from the film were shown on Oprah's Earth Day Special in April 2009, and the documentary has now been screened in festivals worldwide.

Product Reviews (2) "Everything about this film is inspirational: the house, the garden, the self-sufficiency, but most of all (surprising maybe to some) I found the loyalty and love of this father to his children and children to father wonderfully uplifting. They are fully sold on his values, dreams, work ethic, etc. It is apparent they have not been coerced or shamed into living out his dream. It is truly their dream too--how did he do that!??!!" by
"I purchased the public screening version of this DVD and we had a viewing it at my local organic garden club this past fall. Everyone was just blown away! It is enlightens the average gardener to the possibilities and is a wake-up call that we need to be responsible for our food security. Yes you can grow something organic and do it in a small space by utilizing various garden techniques. We had a garden club potluck a few weeks ago and members were STILL talking about Homegrown Revolution screening. The enthusiasm for the upcoming season is "off the charts". Thank you Dervaes family!" by Christine VanHooft
